Artjail Signs Creative Director of Motion Design and VFX Artist Luke Bellissimo

Oct. 12, 2023

Boutique VFX studio Artjail is expanding its motion design department with the hire of new Creative Director of Motion Design and VFX Artist, Luke Bellissimo.

A versatile talent and keen learner, Luke has curated a well-rounded view of the entire post and design process over his career, whether it’s building 3D worlds or simulations, animation, advanced VFX, pitching, or creatively guiding projects from the start. Marrying the compositing, design, and CGI wisdom he gleans from those around him with his own artistic sensibilities, he continually strives to make his work the best it can be.

Luke further diversifies and bolsters his skills through additional interdisciplinary study. With a background in film in photography, his work benefits from his deep understanding of composition, colour, lighting, and images as a whole.

Among Luke’s career highlights are the projects which have allowed him to contribute on a more personal level, and collaborate closely with directors to input his own creative taste. One such piece was director Adam Wilson’s recent short ‘Tenderness’, for which Luke came in at the concepting phase to help develop its motion design and VFX elements. A resounding success, it received an official selection and was shortlisted at this year’s Berlin Commercial Awards in more than six categories.

Also on the festival’s official selection was a commercial for beer brand Collective Arts Brewing, for which Luke constructed the winning pitch. The stunning motion design-led film was also shortlisted at the 2023 Gerety Awards and AICP Post Awards.

Luke’s upcoming work includes a new project with director Liam Cushing, with whom he shares a penchant for compelling abstract and experimental imagery, as well as visuals for Liam’s short, "Silentium".

Luke commented:

“I’m thrilled to be joining a team with an exceptional dedication to culture, growing a boutique studio with a focus on the people and the creative. It’s this ethos that leads to the development of sophisticated and provocative visual work. When we focus on the team, it creates a great feedback loop of improvement that pushes creative boundaries - knowledge sharing, respect for the craft, and great teamwork are all essential in creating the best work possible. With the advancement of AI, I also think it’s a really exciting time to be a creative in this industry and keep on the forefront of the innovation that the technology offers.”

Steve Mottershead, Creative Director and Owner at Artjail, added:

“I've been a long-time follower of Luke's outstanding body of work. Beyond his impressive reel, I really dig his distinctive approach to motion design, which involves a unique blend of tools and techniques that bring a refreshing perspective. Luke's enthusiastic embrace of AI approaches and techniques is genuinely inspiring. His remarkable talent, professional demeanour, and strong work ethic made the decision to welcome him into the Artjail team an easy choice. I’m personally really excited to see what Luke will bring to our future projects.”
