Caviar Welcomes Sergi Castella to Directorial Roster
Dec. 16, 2022
Independent film studio Caviar has today announced the expansion of its directorial roster with the addition of Los Angeles based filmmaker Sergi Castellà.
Born in Barcelona, Sergi discovered his passion for moving pictures at a young age when he started making videos of his skater friends with a MiniDV camera. Shaped by the youth culture his city encompassed, the director’s interests soon migrated into philosophical narratives that use dreamscapes to explore the beauty found in mundane reality.
Aspiring to craft campaigns for brands and agencies that resonate with his cinematic visual and narrative style, Sergi is passionate about bringing stories to life that are meaningful and have a positive impact on the communities they come from. Merging his unique vision with a trademark flare of raw visuals and magic realism, Sergi has directed global campaigns for Nike, Netflix, Adidas, Audi, Lexus, Hyundai, to name a few.
Sergi’s latest spot for Levi's and online German retailer Zalando, further demonstrates the dreamlike quality of his work, with youth culture at the forefront. Entitled "It’s Our Tomorrow", the optimistic 60" film imagines a future full of hope, poetically envisioned by various creative adolescents.
Demonstrating a special sensitivity towards spiritual narratives that is seen across all his creative work, Sergi has recently branched out into the world of film. His latest short film, Tu Niño (2022), uses a lyrical shooting style to explore the poetics of loss found in the immigrant experience. The film premiered at the Hollywood Shorts Fest and won Best Experimental Short.
Sergi is currently in post-production on his new short film A Summer Job (2023), and is in development on two feature projects, The Ferrymen and Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Insha-Allah.
Sergi Castella, director, commented:
"It’s such an honor to officially sign with Caviar and be a part of their roster in the US, London, Paris and Brussels–I believe we’re the perfect fit for one another. Caviar kindly helped me produce my first short film, Tu Niño, when I moved to LA and that was a dream come true to me. They were so hands-on and simultaneously so trustful throughout the whole shooting it made me want to stay and keep collaborating with them. I also looked up to the company, their roster and the work they were creating in the cinema and commercial fields, on both sides of the Atlantic. In the years to come, I am certain that through our collaboration we will create iconic films and commercials together. I’m also looking forward to making a Super Bowl commercial so my mother-in-law, Karla, can finally see what I do!"
Kim Dellara, executive producer at Caviar, commented:
"We are thrilled to have Sergi join our growing roster of directors. He is a stellar talent who’s unique dreamlike style of directing makes his work stand out. We are so excited to continue collaborating together on global campaigns and films alike."
