IKEA Brings Back LGBT+ Rainbow Flag FRAKTA Bag

IKEA Brings Back LGBT+ Rainbow Flag FRAKTA Bag

May. 13, 2021

  • To mark IDAHOBIT (the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia) on Monday 17th May and LGBT+ Pride month in June, IKEA is adopting the Progress Flag and sharing a set of actionable tips for how people can be stronger allies to the LGBT+ community as part of their “Progress is Made” campaign.
  • As part of the campaign, the STORSTOMMA bag returns for another year - in two sizes - and is available to purchase in-store and online across the UK and Ireland from Monday 17th May.
  • 100% of profits from STORSTOMMA will be donated to local LGBT+ charities and initiatives chosen by IKEA stores across the country.

IKEA is selling two LGBT+ rainbow flag versions of its iconic FRAKTA bag to celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) – which takes place Monday 17th May – and LGBT+ Pride month in June.

The bag, which comes in two sizes and costs £1.50 and 75p respectively, is available to purchase online and in store from 17th May. One hundred percent of profits will be distributed to support local LGBT+ initiatives, charities and causes chosen by IKEA stores across the UK and Ireland, to ensure funds are directed to those from the LGBT+ community who need them most.

IKEA believes in everyone's right to be themselves and with these special edition bags, aims to promote standing up against discrimination of the LGBT+ community and promote equal rights on 17th May and every day.

The STORSTOMMA bag is one part of IKEA’s “Progress is Made” campaign, which encourages co-workers and customers alike to do their part to show support for a world where everyone can feel at home.

Carin Hammer Blakebrough, People & Culture Manager, IKEA UK and Ireland, commented:

“At IKEA, we are committed to creating a fair and equal world for both our co-workers and customers, no matter their gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, race, nationality or disability. As part of our “Progress is Made” campaign, we recognise that although as a company we’ve come a long way, progress requires work, guts and imagination – and there’s still a lot of work to do That’s why, as we celebrate the LGBT+ community today and every day, we’re encouraging our co-workers and customers to do their part in becoming stronger allies for the LGBT+ community. For example, by speaking out if you hear discriminatory language or by sharing your personal pronouns (she, they, him) in your work email or on your social media platforms. To us, flying the Progress Flag from our stores on IDAHOBIT is more than symbolic; we know progress still needs to be made so that all people within the LGBT+ community are treated equally and included, and we’re passionate about ensuring that happens.”
