Marshall Street Editor John Mayes Works with McCann Manchester, Stink & Psyop on Aldi's New Christmas Campaign

Marshall Street Editors has teamed up once again with McCann Manchester, Stink and Psyop on a new Christmas campaign for Aldi.

A ''Top Gun'' style teaser was closely followed by an epic 90” storytelling spot, narrated by Jim Broadbent, following the adventures of Kevin The Carrot on his journey home for Christmas.

The epic production was made up of a five day shoot, with three days shooting the background plates and a further two days shooting the actors - Jim Broadbent for the UK and Colm Meaney for the Irish versions.

While Editor John Mayes was on set in London, the Psyop directors (Todd & Kylie) were back in the US, so the team from RSVP streamed the live camera and edit suite feeds to allow everyone to review simultaneously.  John captured the shots live and edited them into the animatic for approval before moving on to the next set up.

For the final two days of the shoot, John moved back into MSE’s office in Soho to edit while still recording the live shoot and streaming the edit suite to Psyop in the US and the creative team at McCann Manchester.

MSE’s Assistant Editors, Serena Rossi & Olly Morgan also played a key role back at Marshall Street’s office via their server, prepping and assembling all the tech passes to carefully match the pre-viz characters.

Paz Parasmand, Producer, Stink Films comments:

“We are getting to grips with what does and doesn’t work remotely. For this job, we used the brilliant guys at RSVP who patched together our clients in Manchester and Ireland onto the terredeck system for the live camera feed. On the same system we also had Marshall Street’s secured editing feed for our directors in America and using Zoom, the team were able to seamlessly talk through the live edit updates, mixing in the real time footage for the directors to see how it was working.  John always brings his wealth of experience and weaves his magic on every project we do with him. Even with our directors in the US, the agency in Manchester and our editor in London it never felt like any one was miles apart”.

John Mayes, Editor, MSE.tv, notes:

“This is my fifth year with Kevin and this year’s film has been a journey, with the whole job edited and approved remotely, but it turned out great.  My favourite job of the year!"
