Matter Unlimited Expands ESG and Social Impact PR and Comms Services, Appoints Jon Amar to Lead
Oct. 25, 2022
Matter Unlimited, an award-winning social impact consultancy and certified B Corp, announces the appointment of Jon Amar to lead its Public Relations and Strategic Communications Department. As Director of PR and Communications, Amar will spearhead all paid, earned, owned and social media strategies — from media relations and thought leadership to amplifying issue-driven campaigns and sustainability initiatives — working across Matter’s roster of clients and partners that are accelerating their ESG actions to help them drive awareness and greater impact. Current clients of the department already include the global business nonprofit Council for Inclusive Capitalism and oral health innovation organization CareQuest Innovation Partners.
Amar is an acclaimed communications expert and public relations entrepreneur with a decade-plus career working directly with members of Congress, publicly-traded and venture-funded companies, non-profit organizations, and foundations. Prior to joining Matter, he ran a boutique strategic communications consultancy in Denver, CO and founded and operated Vetted, the PR industry’s first performance-based earned media platform, which was acquired earlier this year. Throughout his career he has represented leading organizations such as USAID, PhRMA, Bloomberg Philanthropies, members of the U.S. House of Representatives, and Community Oncology Alliance, as well as clients in the real estate and technology industries.
Now as Director of PR and Communications of Matter Unlimited, Amar looks to leverage his skills and experience toward championing the tremendous positive impact that the private sector can have on the world.
Amar said:
"What drew me to Matter Unlimited was their highly experienced leadership team, their pioneering efforts as a certified B Corp, and their inspiring and creative wins for many of the world’s leading organizations. I believe there’s a massive opportunity to radically rethink the social impact space’s relationship to PR. Many organizations want to get into social impact, but they don’t quite know where to start or how to communicate it effectively without being accused of greenwashing or using ESG as a toothless marketing tactic. At Matter, we have a long history of helping clients identify and pursue genuine impact. My role is getting those impact stories out to the audiences that truly matter and helping organizations and their executives build legitimacy and credibility around today’s biggest opportunities — from climate action and racial justice to health equity and access to education."
Matter's PR and Communications offering is a natural expansion of services so the impact consultancy can partner with clients for the long term, helping them navigate the ever-changing cultural zeitgeist and engage audiences in their impact and ESG efforts. Solutions will be customized to each client’s need but will embrace an omni-channel approach – using earned media, owned media, advertorials, partnerships, and social media as well as crisis and internal communications tactics that drive awareness and create measurable impact.
Amar passionately believes that this offering will prove vital for Matter Unlimited and its clients, especially as ESG demands continue to dominate most business transformation efforts.
Amar asserts:
"More and more companies are realizing that a quarterly or annual ESG or sustainability report doesn’t go far enough. You have to champion it, constantly, from the top-down. You can’t simply hire a PR firm to change perception. You need social impact experts who specialize in PR and communication. Consumers are demanding purpose from for-profit companies, and Matter has always been well-positioned to help these companies create and action their purpose. Now we’ll be positioned to extend those actions, and impact, to hyper-targeted and wider audiences."
Matter Unlimited President Alexandra Gordon agrees, added:
"The purpose economy is here. It's not a trend. Our business has doubled in the last 12 months because mission-born organizations are increasingly aware of the power of creative storytelling and strategic communications to help amplify their efforts, and brands, nonprofits, foundations, and even purpose-led venture funds are prioritizing meaningful ESG action. Our clients know that if they get their purpose-led messages out in impactful ways – with consistency, humility, transparency, and authenticity – they will ultimately win in the future. With Jon helping to build out and lead our communications team, I know we can continue to help make that future one we can all be proud of."
