Paddy Power Makes England's "Declaration of Kane-Dependence" Official

England's hopes of World Cup glory were officially placed in the hands of one man this morning, as bookmaker Paddy Power unveiled The Declaration of Kane-Dependence in Parliament Square after Kane's heroic second-half brace rescued England against DR Congo, securing their place in the Round of 16.

In a stunt marking America's 250th Independence Day, a traditional town crier publicly read the declaration beneath the statue of George Washington, while former England international and the man who gave Kane his first Premier League start, Tim Sherwood, put pen to paper to ceremonially sign the document.

Penned in the style of the 1776 Declaration of Independence, the proclamation acknowledged the uncomfortable truth England fans have spent years trying to ignore: when the pressure is on, Harry Kane is still the only man the nation truly trusts.

The declaration proclaims that while England may boast an abundance of step-overs, under-hit crosses and tactical systems, only Kane possesses the God-given ability to leather one into the top corner when it matters most.

The stunt comes ahead of England's last-16 meeting with Mexico on Monday morning, with Thomas Tuchel's side looking to book their place in the World Cup quarter-finals.

A Paddy Power spokesperson said:

"Every tournament England convince themselves they've finally stopped relying on Harry Kane. Then Harry Kane inevitably bails them out. We simply thought it was time someone made it official."

Kane's former manager at Tottenham, Tim Sherwood said:

I’m not sure Harry can do any more than what he’s doing. He can’t have a season like he’s had and not pick up the Ballon D’Or. He’s a phenomenal player with a fantastic attitude, and someone who the English public can rely on to perform when he puts on that shirt.”

With England now just a handful of games from ending 60 years of hurt, Paddy Power felt it was only right to formally recognise the man carrying the hopes, dreams and blood pressure of an entire nation.
