PRETTYBIRD Collaborator Theo Adams Directs Triumphant "Night Call"

Years & Years played to a packed Manchester arena last week, on the final night of a tour featuring stage show and visuals directed by PRETTYBIRD collaborator Theo Adams, who was creative director of the whole tour.

Director and ​​Creative Director Theo Adams created a captivating stage set and stunning visuals, which with Masumi Saito and Meshach Henry’s choreography, perfectly complemented the energetic performance of Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander.  

Manchester Evening News described the show as: "Years & Years stun in seductive and energetic tour finale that was a visual spectacle."

Theo Adams and his team collaborated closely with Olly Alexander to create scenarios on a screen that were translated to the stage through clever set design, including a gym with ballet barres, treadmills and a moving backdrop creating the illusion of Alexander running, a psychedelic backdrop featuring a blue and yellow eye complementing the set for ‘Hallucination’, and phone boxes creating a gritty visualisation of a sensual twilight world.

Theo Adams commented:

"Creating the Night Call tour for Years and Years was a thrilling undertaking. I wanted to create large scale Arena pop show that was filled with theatrical spectacle but also felt intimate and cinematic, Showing a darker, visceral side to Olly's artistry. The hugely talented team that helped me realise this vision worked tirelessly to achieve a show that is unapologetically queer and visually unlike any pop show I've seen. It's not often you see an entire row of grotty public toilets magically appear before your eyes on the stage of Wembley Arena and have the pop star impaled by a 5ft metal spike at the end!"

 

Director Theo Adams and production company PRETTYBIRD, with Executive Producer Juliette Larthe, Producer Chris Murdoch and Production Manager Sam Page-Jones produced the visuals for the screens.
