The Spanish Agency Shackleton Presents "Prudent Lights" For Christmas

Dec. 15, 2021

This Christmas in Spain, moderation with food, restraint when it comes to drinking, and control in family conversations, will be minor concerns compared to the real challenge: exorbitant electricity prices.

Against this backdrop, Shackleton presents "Prudent Lights", the Christmas lights that are scheduled to shine bright when electricity is cheapest, and discretely turn off all other times.

Spain is one of the countries where the excessive cost of electricity is having the most effect.

To combat it, the Government has set up time slots with cheaper prices at certain times of the day. The problem is that people have to be aware of what time it is to know if they can use the oven, run the washing machine or turn on the large lamp in the living room. The campaign addresses the situation in Spain, but this news is also making headlines in other countries around the world due to rising prices in recent months: the so-called "global blackout". Which is why the creative agency has developed "Prudent Lights", the Christmas lights that turn off at those hours when "the Christmas spirit costs you an arm and a leg", as its slogan indicates. And so these lights shine only when the user wants them to, so holiday celebrations don’t cause their electricity bill to skyrocket.

Juan Silva, Executive Creative Director at Shackleton said:

"The idea was just a humorous nod to the disaster that is the electricity bill and, while we're at it, to offset in part that excess Christmas glee".

Pablo Alzugaray, President-CEO of Shackleton, notes:

"It seems to me to be one of those cases in which our sense of humour enhances our common sense so we can take a different approach to one of the issues that is really important for many people right now".

How they work

  • Place "Prudent Lights" in your tree, nativity scene or space you want to light up.
  • Plug them into any socket.
  • And that's it. They’ll know when to switch off to save.

The "Prudent Lights" are presented in a humorous spot that narrates the surprise party that a family is preparing for their grandmother, Prudent. To amaze the head of the family, her children and grandchildren decorate her entire home with flashy lights that require a lot of power, achieving their objective, but not with the desired effect.

To share this novel solution, Shackleton is offering giveaways on its Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts so that anyone who is interested can have their "Prudent Lights".
