COP27, the largest annual gathering on climate action, recently announced a sponsorship agreement with Coca-Cola With Coca-Cola being understood as one of the world’s largest plastic polluters the deal has faced a backlash from climate pressure groups such as Greenpeace.

The vital climate conference, described as the "last chance saloon" for keeping runaway global warming in check, has been accused of providing Coca-Cola with an "unchallenged platform" on the global stage.

In anticipation of the new sponsorship, Wherefrom, the Trustpilot for sustainability, have trolled Coca-Cola by leaking a range of commemorative merchandise - which are more reflective of the realities of the worlds largest plastic polluter sponsoring COP27.

The range of merchandise includes Coca-Cola X COP27 branded: Polar Bear ice-cubes, baby dolphin babygrow, baby turtle Crocs, Dolphin ocean plastic sea bin, and on Monday, a special release of a special edition Turtle Coca Cola cooling bottle.

With Unilever recently being banned by the ASA for outwardly greenwashing, brands are under more scrutiny than ever. This is not the first time Wherefrom have called out obvious big brand Greenwashing, with Mercedes “Nature or Nurture” famously being challenged by the challenger start-up Wherefrom.

Adam Williams, Co-founder of Wherefrom said:

“We actively encourage brands to support change. But they aren't paying to help fix the problem at all, they're paying to advertise - with the simple goal of selling more products; and thus further compounding the problem.”

George White at 10 Days likened the sponsorship to “The NRA sponsoring a gun amnesty. The very same people who are responsible for polluting the planet are now trying to appear as if they’re one of the good guys.”

Jolyon White, Co-founder of 10 Days said:

"One of the world's top polluters is sponsoring one of the most important sustainability events of the year. So, we've come up with a campaign to hammer home how absurd this partnership really is.”
