Lime Partners with Bronx-Based LL, LLC to Transform Retired Scooters into Wearable Works of Art

Lime, a global leader in micromobility, debuts a groundbreaking collaboration with Bronx-based jewelry label LL, LLC, at this September’s New York Fashion Week. The exclusive collection features: a choker, bracelet, ring, and earrings that reimagines retired Lime scooter parts as sculptural jewelry an unexpected intersection of sustainable circularity, local heritage, and design innovation.

For Lia, founder of LL, LLC, the project is deeply personal.

She explained:

“Lime scooters have been part of my daily landscape for years. I wanted to honor their presence in the Bronx by merging their materials with the borough’s preserved Art Deco architecture."

Drawing inspiration from terrazzo floors, glass bricks, and brick pointing, she used cutting and casting techniques to transform scooter aluminum and reflectors into terrazzo-like gemstones and sculptural forms.

As a sculptor for over a decade before turning to jewelry in 2017, Lia has always treated her practice as a dialogue between material, body, and culture, one where transformation and storytelling are as important as craft itself.

What began as an art-world provocation—a faux trunk show of non-wearable jewelry—has since evolved into a brand that merges fine art sensibility with wearable design. Today, she describes her relationship with metal as "a kind of magic," where attention to detail turns raw matter into enduring objects. Equally important is the pragmatism of design: how an object is produced, how it endures, and the many skilled hands that shape it along the way. "It’s a social way of working and problem-solving," she notes, a philosophy that imbues her work with both rigor and humanity.

That very sensibility opens a dialogue with Lime, whose mission of decarbonizing transportation includes a focus on recycling the materials they use to build their vehicles. This collaboration demonstrates how end-of-life vehicle parts can be reborn as meaningful objects, resonating on both creative and civic levels.

Carolyn Rosebrough, Chief Brand and Communications Officer at Lime said:

"Lia is an ideal partner for us. She is a native New Yorker who built her studio in the Bronx, where Lime serves thousands of riders every day. Together, we are transforming retired vehicle parts into wearable works of art, a collaboration that speaks to our shared values of sustainability, circularity, and community."

Lime has been proud to provide safe, affordable, and sustainable transportation options for Bronx residents since August 2021 as part of the New York City Department of Transportation shared e-scooter program, which expanded to Queens in 2024 Lime's service in the Bronx is focused on connecting New Yorkers to MTA subways and buses, making it easier to get around areas of the city traditionally underserved by transportation, and ensuring affordable access to all via its Lime Access discounts for anyone eligible for city, state, or federal subsidies. In the past four years hundreds of thousands of riders have powered millions of rides on Lime e-scooters in New York City.

Together, Lia and Lime show how the objects that move us through the city can be recast as symbols of culture and continuity. For Lia, the collection extends her belief that design should be locally made, durable, and thoughtful, reflecting both the people who shape it and the stories it carries. For Lime, it embodies a vision of merging global expertise with hyperlocal authenticity, building a greener future not in abstraction but within the neighborhoods it serves. For New York Fashion Week, it stands as a reminder that transformation of materials, of purpose, and of community—lies at the heart of both design and sustainability.
